Amanda was born and raised in San Antonio. She graduated from O’Connor High School in 2005. She went on to study bible ministry at His Hill Bible School in Comfort, TX. She’s been married to her husband Jason for 7 years and have two beautiful children, Colton and Lyla.
Amanda enjoys outdoor activities including camping, hunting, fishing, water sports, hiking, etc. She most enjoys time spent with her family and friends.

Meet Amber! She has been serving at Gateway for nearly two years by volunteering as a greeter. Amber was also able to use her love of organizing to revamp the merchandise area. She is excited to continue to serve as she joins the Gateway Staff as an Executive Ministry Assistant. Outside of Gateway, you can find Amber spending time with her husband Larry Arzaga, and their two daughters, Malani and Kai. With her upcoming graduation from H300, the whole family is excited to work towards the mission of “helping friends become devoted followers of Jesus!”

Meet Austyn! She has been serving Gateway for six years since moving to San Antonio to attend UTSA. She was a college small group leader in Chi Alpha when her heart to disciple students began, which led to her leadership role in Velocity Student Ministries. After graduating from UTSA with a degree in Public Health, Austyn became a caseworker for the City of San Antonio. However, her passion for serving the church has led to her new position as the Connections Director at Gateway. She assists the Volunteer Director by connecting first-time guests and assimilating new volunteers. During her free time, if Austyn is not traveling or trying new foods, she is enjoying a good donut while contemplating a pug adoption.

Small Group, Missions, and Recovery Pastor
Chris grew up in Houston, TX and graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1998. While earning a BA in Mathematics from Schreiner University, he met his wife, Mandy, while leading worship at a church plant called the Soul Cafe. They got married in May of 2003. Early in their marriage, Mandy earned a degree in Music Composition from Baylor and Chris did graduate work in Education. While living in Waco, Chris taught high school math, coached, and was a worship leader for a few different churches. The Campbell Family moved to San Antonio in July of 2007 and Chris got a job teaching math at Warren High School. On Mother’s Day of 2008 the Campbells visited Gateway Fellowship Church when they met in an elementary school. Chris immediately got involved with music and he and Mandy eventually became small group leaders. In August of 2016, Chris came on full-time staff at Gateway to help with Small Groups, help train new leaders, lead the charge in missions, and pastor Freedom & Recovery. Chris and Mandy have 4 children – Ruth, Ian, Rowan, and Ivy – they love camping, music, and most of all, making disciples for the Kingdom.

Meet Dani! She was born and raised in Arizona then moved to Texas to attend Southwestern Assemblies of God University where she graduated with a Business Degree in 2012. Following her marriage to her husband, Nate Escobedo, they moved to San Antonio where God called her to work with children. She started attending Gateway which is when her calling became a reality. After being mentored by Chili and Lupita Sandoval and completing an internship, Dani is now the Upper Elementary Kids Pastor. Dani and her husband, Nate, love spending time with their beautiful six-month-old baby girl, Sedona Arabella and look forward to watching her grow at Gateway with their church family.
Small Group Head Coach
Don grew up in the Houston area where he graduated from Pearland High School in 1988. Shortly after graduating he joined the U.S. Air Force serving his country for over 21 years, retiring in 2009. While in the military he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Wayland Baptist University in 1997 and his Master’s Degree in 2002 from Webster University, both in Business Management. He’s been married to his beautiful wife Rhonda for 23 years, and has been blessed with two amazing children, Jordan and Ashley. They’ve been attending Gateway since 2008. Don surrendered his life to Jesus in March of 2009. Since then Don and Rhonda have served as Coaches and Small Group Leaders at Gateway. Don and Rhonda both desire for others to know the love of God reflected in Jesus Christ and for them to become devoted followers. Don loves playing basketball, reading, and spending time with his family and friends.

Chi Alpha Missionary & College Pastor
Johnny and Amy met in their college days at Sam Houston State University back in 2001. Both gave their hearts to Jesus as a part of a campus ministry there and experienced discipleship for the first time. After watching this transform their own lives and those around them, they became convinced that discipleship was Jesus’ method to reach mankind! After serving on staff with Chi Alpha in Huntsville for 6 years, they decided to give their lives to reach college students in San Antonio as full time missionaries.They pioneered the UTSA chapter of Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship in 2008–a national organization that takes its name from II Corinthians 5:20 which says we are Christ’s Ambassadors. They are passionate about discipleship and their home is a revolving door of college students.
In 2009 they welcomed their daughter Haven into the world and are having the time of their lives being parents! Johnny can also be found reading a good book, riding bmx, camping with college students, or basically anything outdoors with adventure involved–often with his trusty sidekick, Dr. Pepper, in hand. Amy loves the outdoors as well, enjoys a good cup of coffee, playing her guitar, and is pursuing a Masters Degree in English at UTSA.

Jason “Chili” met his beautiful bride, Lupita, at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, TX. They were married in the summer of 2009. They are the proud parents of their miracle baby girls Joannah Sofia, who was born in 2012 and Juliana, who was born in 2015. Their experience in ministry includes serving as children and youth pastors in both the Dallas and San Antonio area. They have a heart for missions and have traveled to several countries to partner with missionaries and pastors. Jason and Lupita are both educators in the public school system, Jason taught 4th grade and she currently teaches in a 2nd Grade Bilingual classroom. They love meeting new families and investing into the upcoming generations.
During any free time that the baby allows, Jason enjoys reading, fishing and running. As a family, they enjoy traveling (visiting family in New Mexico and Colorado), shopping and making memories. They are both kids at heart and love sharing silly moments as a family and with others.
John Van Pay
John grew up in the San Antonio area where he graduated from Clemens High School. He met his wife Stephanie at Southwestern University and went to graduate school in Houston. Along with their lab named Ella, they have three children, Hannah Grace, Emma, and Bryce. Their pursuit of knowing and loving Jesus has resulted in a passion to make disciples, equip leaders, and send teams to start new churches.
John enjoys cycling, mountain biking, reading, duck hunting and tent camping.
Jonathan Raveneau grew up in Dallas, Texas surrounded by the arts. In 2002, Jonathan began attending Baylor University as a music major, intent on using his musical talents for his own glory. Thankfully, God had much better ideas and in the summer of 2005 Jonathan surrendered his life to Christ and was saved. Jonathan moved to San Antonio in 2008 to be with his beautiful bride Maggie. They have since been blessed with three children, Rose, David and Nathan. Jonathan and Maggie began attending Gateway Fellowship in the summer of 2008. Three years later, Jonathan began leading worship at Gateway and is still grateful for the opportunity to lead people into the Presence of the Lord. When not leading worship, he can be found teaching music and performing with various bands throughout the San Antonio area.
Meet Jorge! He has been attending Gateway for three years and has served in AVL and as a Small Group Leader. For over twenty years, Jorge worked in hospitality and the AV business, but it was through serving the church that he realized his gifts could be used in ministry. Jorge is now transitioning to be the new Technical Director at Gateway, where he will help the Worship Arts team with lighting, sound, live video, and stage design. Jorge believes his mission is to help everyone feel welcome, connected, and to know Christ. If Jorge is not at Gateway, you can find him co-operating a delicious food truck, FIG mobile eatery, with his wife, Marivel Roqué, or hanging out with their son, Sebastian.

Josh was born and raised in Midwest City, Oklahoma and earned an undergraduate degree in finance from Oklahoma State University. While there he met his future bride Kayla and the two were married in the spring of 2006. Josh went on to earn a law degree two years later, work in compliance roles for three universities across the country, and most recently served as a Budget Manager for the City of San Antonio. He is grateful for the home they have found in Gateway and is excited to serve the people of our community. Josh and Kayla also find great joy in sharing in all of the exciting experiences of their one-year-old son, Micah.Josh also enjoys spending time outdoors, playing and watching sports, and exploring south Texas.

Lower Elementary Kids Director
Meet Katie! She was invited to Gateway two years ago where she found her way back to God. She serves in Adventure Kids and is a Women’s Small Group Leader. Currently a fourth-grade teacher, she will soon be transitioning to the Lower Elementary Kids Pastor. Katie’s passion is in helping kids develop a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a desire to help them build godly friendships. Outside of church, she enjoys cozying up at the Cracked Mug reading a good book, going to game nights, and spending time with family and friends.
Director of Church Planting
Mario was born and raised in the border town of Eagle Pass, Texas. At the age of 16, he moved to Minnesota where he attended Crossroads College receiving his degree in Theology and Music. The best part of living in Minnesota was not snow, puffy coats, snowmobiles or ice fishing, but meeting his beautiful wife Vanessa in college. They were married in Mexico on December 29, 2001. They are thankful parents of 4 awesome children, Aiyana, Adalai, Israel, and Levi.
Mario loves spending time with his family either eating frozen yogurt, playing at the park or watching a movie with buttery popcorn. He loves mountain biking, camping, eating Julio’s Chips, and writing or dancing to songs with Aiyana.
His greatest blessing is to lead people to God’s throne. Mario never had this master plan on “what to do when he grows up”. He is loving life and takes each step in awe of what God has in store.

Matt’s military upbringing moved him during middle school from San Francisco to San Antonio, at which time he met his best friend, John Van Pay. He felt connected to ministry in High school and upon graduation pursued his undergraduate degree at Southwestern Assemblies of God University and his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. After school, Matt joined the staff of a church in the Dallas area, where he met and married his wife, Crysti. Together they have two sons, Nathaniel and Caleb.
Matt has served in various ministry roles over the years including Associate Pastor over Small Groups & Missions, Director of Discipleship and Director of Student Ministries.
Through a truly divine orchestration, Matt and his family were able to move back to his roots and join the Gateway Fellowship team.

Meet Matt! He was born in Los Angeles, California, but mostly raised in Texas. He was a sophomore in high school when he was first invited to Gateway. In the summer of 2012, Matt gave his life to Christ and began volunteering as a Velocity small group leader and helping with media. Matt’s talent in art and graphic design led to his new role as the Multimedia Designer. He designs visual elements for the church such as signs and on-screen graphics. Matt desires to serve the church with the same love of Christ that others have shown to him.

Meet Michal! Michal and her family have been a part of Gateway since 2010. She has served in several areas and focused on growing as a small group leader and coach. She glorifies God for her new position as the Director of Volunteers, where she will help others find their sweet spot in serving God’s kingdom and flourish in their servant-leadership abilities. Just as she is devoted to the church, Michal also loves spending time her husband of 25 years, Mark Lee, and their seven children, Andrea, Richmond, Greyson, Hannah, Quenton, Daylon, and Benjamin. “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” — 1 Peter 4:10.
Phase 2 Construction Liason
Meet Shaylin! Born and raised in San Antonio, she later enrolled and was admitted to Baylor University where she earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Accounting. For the last two years, God put a desire in her heart to become more involved at Gateway. In May 2017, Shaylin applied for an accounting position that was announced in the worship guide for that weekend. Shortly after interviewing, Shaylin was hired as Gateway’s Bookkeeper, where she continues to use her degree and work experience to serve the church. In her free time, Shaylin enjoys teaching accounting at a local college, working out at Gold’s Gym, hanging out with friends and family, or sleeping. She believes the Lord has given her a real burden for unity in the Body of Christ which is why her long-term goal is to start and run a nonprofit that will unite churches in economically segregated cities. Her mission is to love, encourage, and meet the needs of underprivileged youth in their own cities.

Stephanie Van Pay
Steph is a wonderful mom and her passion is kids. One of her greatest moments in life was serving as the kids pastor of Evangel Temple in Wichita Falls, Texas. She loves running and hanging out with other moms. Steph loves watching chick flick movies while eating Sour Patch kids.
Event Coordinator & Worship Arts Assistant
Terri Collier serves as Event Coordinator and Worship Arts Assistant at Gateway. Terri loves to assemble a team and work on a project that serves the Church. She grew up in San Antonio, where she met her husband, Steve, in first grade. Terri became a Christ-follower during the 1970’s Jesus Movement. She graduated from Texas State University, taught elementary school, and served as Development Director for a Christian school. When she taught, she also drove a school bus, but was too short to reach the pedals, so they duct taped a block of wood to the gas and brake so she could reach them! She also ran a Christmas tree lot to benefit the school and is still known as the “Christmas Tree Lady”. Currently, she works part-time for Steve’s company and part-time for Gateway. Steve and Terri have a son, Jason, who is married to Amanda, and they have 2 grandchildren, Colton and Lyla. They enjoy RVing, hiking and spending time outdoors.
Randy & Kathryn Van Pay
After several years in pastoral ministry, Randy’s focus is on making a difference by meeting the needs of the Helotes community. He graduated with his masters from Southwestern where he met his wife. He loves surprising her by going on creative dates every Friday night. Randy enjoys grilling, golf, and watching the Green Bay Packers.
After several years in ministry, Kathryn graduated Southwestern University with a Masters in Counseling and recently became board certified. She serves as a chaplain at United Methodist Hospital. She loves shopping at the La Cantara shops and spending time with her grand kids. She is an excellent listener and has the right thing to say when people are in crisis.
